This post is all about how to encourage your kids to encounter God in a real and miraculous way.
We all want our kids to come to know the Lord as soon as possible. I’ve really pondered what this might look like for my kids, especially as they’ve grown. My oldest is nearly 8 which is not too young to have an encounter with God!
A little backstory….
Every year for the Last 4 years, my sisters and I attend a Homeschool conference before the new school year begins. We leave the kids with their Dads and make a little girls trip of it. This year we attended a slightly different conference.
This was a conference for Kingdom educators of all kinds. Instead of looking through homeschool material like we had at other conferences, we took workshops that taught us to usher God’s presence into our “classrooms”. We were challenged to pray in tongues at a more intimate level than we ever had. We found inspiration to keep our homeschool journey focused on the Lord and not on competing with the worlds system.
Another amazing thing about this conference is that it had an intensive workshop for kids. I decided that this year would be amazing for me oldest daughter to hopefully meet the Lord in a new way! One thing about my daughtert is that she LOVES to go and do. She would fly to Colorado tomorrow if id let her. She is an adventurer and is thrilled to get to do things that feel big to her. So you can imagine she was pumped for this time to drive far away with Mommy, Aunt Tia and Aunt Jojo to meet with Holy Spirit
But her encounter didnt come at the conference….
As the days grew closer to our trip, her bags were packed well in advance. But as childhood would have it at times, she started to feel feversih about 48 hours before our departure. She was starting to get worried, crying and asking me to ensure her that this wouldnt stop us from going. I told her that we couldn’t take her with a fever to be around other kids. I started to worry as well. Especially considering this little bug had hit a few of the other kids in the passing weeks and it seemed to linger around a week.
My husband and I agreed that the Holy Spirit wanted Myla to attend this conference and we decided we would pray and believe for healing. I told Myla she was going to have to stand against it and to keep praying until the fever went away. The whole family prayed for her fervently as we continued our day. The fever seemed to grow and it wasn’t looking great. I was starting to prepare for her stay home but in Mylas heart and mind she stood strong.
She sat on the stairs and cried before God and Him for healingl. She must have asked in faith because her fever began to break. As the hour for out trip grew closer Myla was perking up big time. She was back to her high energy self, fever free and ready to go with a few hours to spare. She was thrilled to be able to go but what was even more precious is that she knew in her core God had made a way for her. God knew Myla wanted to go and Myla knew God wanted her to go.
I was undone with gratefulness that My God, the God I’ve encountered countless times, had touched my child and was begining to reveal himself to her. What an honor and a privilage to witness.
The kids conference was a thrill and a joy for Myla. They spent time in worship, learning to hear God, and prophesy into their dreams. But we all knew her personal encounter came as she asked the God of healing to come down and touch her body. It taught Myla that God sees, He hears, He heals, He has plans for us and He knows the desire of our hearts.
This experience taught me that my job as a godly parent is to recognize the opportunities for my kids to express faith. Typically in an area of great desire within the child, a moment arises that God can show himself faithful. If we believe God hears our prayers, we can open that door of encounter and guide the child to go through if they choose.
We need to remember hat God is willing and able to reveal himself to our kids. He wants to be known by our children! And truly, He knows and loves them better than we do. There are countless ways God can show himself true and its exciting to think how many ways He will. Lets keep our eyes peeled for the next time a little faith is needed and give our children the opportuinty to step into it with us. Who knows what God will do?
These Steps will set your kids up for an encounter with God.
See a Need/ Recognize the moment
If we keep our faith elevated and expect to see miracles, we will be prepared to invite God’s arm into our Childs situation because we have confidence in the Lord within our own life. He can find the lost toy, He can give wisdom to resolve conflicts with friends, He can give peace to pass a school test, He can provide the desire of our hearts, big and small. See the next problem as an opportunity for God to move.
Invite Holy Spirit
Without Holy Spirit, we will never be able to show our kids the real Jesus. Rely on Holy Spirit as the only one who leads us into all truth. This is not a you thing, this is a God thing!
Stir your Faith
Now you’ve got to stand and believe! Don’t waver from your expectation to see God in some way. It might not come how you expect but God is faithful and will reveal himself to those who seek him with their whole heart. God might speak to you or your child at this time. He might suggest you and your child give in some way to activate your faith. It could be anything, just keep your faith stirred!
Pray
The prayers of the righteous availeth much. Know God hears you when you pray. Knock, Seek, and Ask! God is going to move.
Wait
There have been times it take weeks for the prayer to be answered, The tiniest lego toy that, humanly was impossible to find took 2 weeks to show up again in the lego box. We prayed, expected and didn’t loose hope. Remember the prayers you pray.
Rejoice!
Because God is going to answer, this step is going to have its opportunity! What a joy is it when miracles slip into ordinary homes. It is cause for great celebration. What did the women who found her treasure do? Luke 15:8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
These encounters are bringing our children into a real relationship with the Living God. Their hearts will soften as you watch their unbelief melt away. This is cause for huge celebration! The way you celebrate miracles and answered prayer will teach your children as much if not more than the encounter itself.
Oh to know God and to make Him known! We have much to accomplish as mothers and many needs to fulfill for our children but what rest and what pleasure there is to watch God fulfill them all in a moment!
This post will teach you how to expect and prepare your kids for an encounter with God.
