This post will show you the essentials you’ll need to have the best workout at home.
Working out is not always easy, especially when you’re crunched for time so working out at home is an incredible option for many of us. It not only saves money, but so much time! Having the right tools and accessories will motivate you to be excited to workout at home and to stay consistent. These are all tested and true, as I’ve worked out from home the last 3 years!
Here are a few essentials Ive found that make working out at home possible and fun!
At Home Workout Essentials
1. Free Weights
To lose fat and build muscle at home, your going to need free wieghts for effective workouts. I have grown to LOVE this aspect of my workout. Having the weights at home is a bit of an investment up front. A good rule of thumb is around a dollar per pound of weight. You will thrive in your at home workouts if you own a good set of free weights. My mama had ’em. Her mama had ’em. They are a timeless exercise tool that will last a lifetime.
2. Sneakers and Socks
Number one is a solid pair of sneakers that are comfortable, durable, and cute! You need sneakers that are versatile enough to wear for a sweaty workout and then transition into jeans or slacks. The first ones linked below I own and I literally wear every single day. Im also tagging socks here because you can effortlessly go from working out at home to looking like Princess Di by throwing on a clean sweater and a pair of gold earrings.

3. Water Bottle
Maybe I’m immature or vain or whatever but having a cute water bottle actually gets me to drink more water. Staying hydrated will fuel your body to have a good workout at home. It’s incredible for your skin and it’s just an absolute must for fit mamas!
4. Exercise Mat
Go easy on the knees and get a mat. These mats are perfect for stretching, pilates and protectting your floor from weight damage.
5. Headphones
Drown out all the noise and focus 100% on your workout. Being at homes might mean there are other things going on at the same time. Headphones give you that fully focused, gym workout feeling, at home! The ones linked I own, use and reccomend!
6. Mirrors
If you have a mirror, make sure to utilize that! Looking in a mirror while working out will drastically improve your form and posture. If you have a designated space for working out, be sure to get a mirror feature to improve your at home workouts!
7. Workout Sets
If you look the part, you’ll be the part. Stop working out at home on your old t-shirts. Get some workout clothes that make you feel like an athlete. And who doest love some adorable athleisure? Try to buy workout clothes that you’d wear as everyday items as well. Here are some of my favorites.
8. Calender and Journal
Tracking your workouts at home are just as important as if you were at a gym. You’re going to get stronger, and you’ll want to see that progress. Creating a split is also key to staying consistent with working out at home, so get a calendar to hold yourself accountable! Treat it like a gym class schedule, you’ve got to show up!
9. Resistance Bands
These can be extremely helpful in muscle training. If you don’t have room for huge machines, these little bands can take you far in tightening and stability.
10. Bench or Step Box
Let’s, Arms, Abs…This bench will help you kill your at home workouts! If you have a bench, your workout options open up greatly.
11. Cardio Machine
This one is not technically an “essential” for at home workouts, But if you have the space, this is an incredible investment for your health. I was just given an eliptical from a friend and my at home workouts have gone to the next level! You can always look at garage sales or Facebook market place for a good deal.
Whether you’re already at “at home workout rat” or you’re just dipping your feet in the water, these essentials will only make your at home workouts that much better!
And remember, you kids need a happy mommy, not a fit one so stay focused on what’s important!
However I will say, the benefits of working out like endorphins, physical strength, and greater confidence have only benefited me in motherhood journey.
